From VIRAL SPIRAL — A collection of poems by Sarah P. Ross
The city that bustles is now stopped every day
Amidst deafening silence, isolation’s the way.
Because of a virus quarantining us all
Testing our best to step up for the call
Killing the weakest who must senselessly fall
Forcing all over Covid’s death wall.
In the quiet of the evening at 7 pm
Something magical and eventful always begins
Hands clap from the windows
From one to another
A chain of love and appreciation like no other.
Out the windows all New Yorkers
Start clapping along
To thank all responders
Even when their strength was all gone.
People getting through this together
When love is what’s won
People overcoming this pandemic
Forever, New York strong.
